Current Highlights

  • “Picnic in the Park”, an annual event in the Square
  • “Wee Read” program (with support from the Capri Theatre), gifting book bags to newborns at Stewart Memorial Hospital (ongoing since 2008)
  • “RAGtime”, a daytime program of Reading, Art and Games for children (K-grade 4) held on teacher in-service days
  • “Great Getaway” programs, held in conjunction with Shady Oaks
  • “Table Affair”, a hospital fundraiser (September)
  • A Book Signing Event:  “Salute to Our Veterans” by Judy Johnson (November)
  • Spring Luncheon to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the library building (February )
  • Birthday of the Month Program at Shady Oaks (June)
  • Summer Reading Program “Digging” Event to promote assistant librarian Kim Olson’s book (June)


Past Highlights

  • An audio/visual program about the life and work of naturalist Aldo Leupold & his book “The Sand County Almanac” (2011)
  • Hosted Iowa Public Television personality Dan Wardell for children’s programs
  • Sponsored songwriter/musician James Hersch to collaborate with school children to create “Lake City Songs” for the Sesquicentennial (2006)
  • Supported “All Lake City Reads Red Badge of Courage” Program (2002)
  • Sponsored “Reading on the Square” with Iowa’s 1st Lady, Christie Vilsack
  • Sponsored “Teddy Bear’s 100th Anniversary” Celebration
  • Sponsored “No TV Pledge” during National Library Week
  • Programs on Winnie the Pooh and Curious George and Harry Potter
  • Purchases:  library furnishings, book display stands, computers, technology
